It’s time for tea in beautiful Carshalton Village as a new vintage-style tea shop prepares to open on the historic High Street. Dotty’s Teahouse is the latest independent business to start up on Carshalton High Street and will offer a quirky, retro take on tea and cake for those who love their cuppa with a slice of old-style glamour.

The sumptuous opening party featured a 50’s style singing trio arriving in a vintage car while guests sampled some of the fabulous cakes and sandwiches in a gorgeous retro interior which Dotty’s Teahouse will soon be synonymous for.

Local Mum Rebecca Mackenzie is the lady behind the new arrival, having finally found a permanent home from which she can share her love of all things vintage. “I’ve been catering for weddings and events from my little caravan, Vintage Dotty, for a few years now,” says Rebecca. “Then last year we had an opportunity to set up a temporary tea room in Kingston and it was so popular that we decided to look for somewhere we could settle down for good.”

Refreshing experience
The corner premises at 108 High Street prove to be just the ticket, and Rebecca, husband David and a team of helpers (especially her Dad) have been working flat out to have it ready in time for opening in May. Already the flurry of work has attracted interest locally, so Rebecca is confident that it will be a hit once doors open on 19th May. “There’s nothing else like Dotty’s Teahouse in Carshalton or the local area, so I think it wil be a refreshing new experience for everyone who visits,” she says.

As well as the afternoon teas that Rebecca and her caravan have become known for, Dotty’s Teahouse will also offer light lunches and breakfast options, including takeaways for those on the go. Food and drink will be served in vintage china from Rebecca’s huge collection - one of the many authentic touches customers will find throughout. A special children’s menu and a play area are thoughtful touches for parents, which Rebecca was keen to include as a Carshalton Mum to twin girls herself.

Dotty’s Teahouse will be much more than just a spot to grab a quick cup of tea, Rebecca adds: “I really want it to become a hub for the local community, so we’ll host art workshops, knitting circles, book clubs - all kinds of groups and activities will be welcome! Our motto for Dotty’s Teahouse is ‘tea, cake and creativity,’ so I’m looking forward to working with like-minded people in the local area.”
